Basic Emergency Care

Basic airway manoeuvres are used to open and maintain the airway in patients with altered mental status. These manoeuvres can be used for both adults and children. The tongue becomes floppy and falls back into the airway when a patient is unconscious; these manoeuvres open the airway by moving the obstructing tongue out of the way.
